Playing at preschool is learning! At first glance one may miss the cues of important learning and skill development occurring in our classrooms. Upon closer observation one sees the beginnings of social engagement, fine & large motor development as well as the exploration of science, mathematics, and language at play. Hands-on, self directed exploration in a purposeful and inviting setting equals growth. Our classrooms are a flurry of meaningful activity!
Play based is how we approach creating our curriculum and classrooms. Sparking curiosity in a nurturing setting is our priority. We offer a variety of centers in each classroom. The centers are modified throughout the school year to meet the needs as well as challenge the children working in those areas. Centers in each classroom include: sand, blocks, housekeeping, art, library, painting, discovery, and more.
Meeting times are another important component. Children participate as a group through theme discussions, stories, music/movement, sharing bags, and more. Preschoolers have great ideas and experiences to share! We learn and develop together as a class throughout the school year.

In addition to the classroom, a variety of other play options are offered throughout the year. Our large motor area is available multiple times every month. The children really enjoy driving cars, riding tricycles, balancing on the beam, climbing up and sliding down the slide, playing basketball, and more.

Exploring the world around us beyond the classroom provides an array of learning opportunities too. Nature walks, playtime outside and scientific observations of our living world (leaves, sunflowers, butterflies, bugs, vegetable gardens, etc) are just a few examples of how we learn from the living world/classroom around us.
